If you are interested in the research of traffic safety or any transportation engineering topic, you can apply for PhD study at our group. I am looking for motivated students to work with me. Ideally prospective students should have a solid background in mathematics and/or statistics.
University Research Studentships
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) offers Research Studentships to full-time PhD students. The Studentship is a scholarship intended to be a means of financial support to allow full-time research students to fully focus on their studies. It shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit. The period of the Studentship is decided by the Department according to the student’s ability, academic background or experience. The current Studentship carries a stipend of *HK$18,000 per month. Studentship recipients spend up to six hours of training each week within their Department. The training involves assisting teaching and scholarly activities and is relevant to your formal programme of study. For details, please refer tohttp://www.polyu.edu.hk/ro/e-prospectus/index.html. Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)
Top-calibre applicants can consider applying the prestigious PhD fellowship offered by the Research Grants Council (RGC). The fellowship aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue PhD studies in Hong Kong. It offers an attractive package of a monthly stipend of HK$27,000 (approximately US$3,500) and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for each awardee for a period of three years. As competition is extremely fierce, you must have an excellent academic record, research potential, communication and leadership skills in order to be considered for nominarion. Applicants who have applied for the HKPFS will be automatically considered for the award of University Postgraduate Fellowship (UPF) from HKPU. The deadline for submitting an application to RGC and HKPU is 30 November. Please contact me well before the closing deadline for preparation of the application. You will need to submit a solid and sound research plan, research proposal, vision statements, a short essay, together with the standard application documents in order to be considered for the award.
